After beating my head against the wall for a couple of days I went back to using R3. I think until RS releases another update I'd stay away from R4 unless you absolutely, positively need universal binaries.
Have you tried the PPC version of r4? I'm having good luck with r4 PPC, after initially needing to convert the plugins I use to the .rbx format. r4 PPC has never crashed on me, although r4 UB does crash occasionally.
Anyway, r4 PPC has some important bug fixes and is working fine for me. So although I don't compile to UB yet, r4 PPC is my main IDE.
