I'm not sure why you would *want* to convert to an actual inch on the screen, if that is in fact what you are asking. After all, doesn't that defeat the whole point of allowing the user to select a higher screen resolution in the first place?

An example: Conversion from centimeters on a screen to pixels and vice-versa is very important in vision research, where you want a target on the screen to subtend a specific angular size when viewed at a certain distance.
