Be behavior of Aliases Vs Windows Shortcuts are one of the many little reasons I prefer Macs over PC's...

Form an end users standpoint Shortcuts with their absolute paths are restrictive and fight entropy... where aliases go with the (work) flow...

Such features may make coding a bit more complex (no simple assumptions) but enriches the end user experience.
