You should be able to do this with declares, I think. This declare, Sets the title of a menu to be an icon. OSStatus SetMenuTitleIcon ( MenuRef inMenu, UInt32 inType, void * inIcon ); intype can be set to kMenuIconCGImageRefType and inIcon can be set to CGImageRef. So I would guess that you can get what you need by way of a CoreGraphics image and a declare or two.
