I'm pretty sure that you can do it for MacOS and Linux using
approximately the same code. But the code I have in mind is pretty
low-level.

Would rather not rely on checking a folders permissions but would like
an actual OS function.
I know MBS has a function for Windows but I didn't find a similar
one for Mac.
