In RB 2006r2, I have an app window with a canvas, where I would like to drag
certain items displayed in the canvas. I would also like to be able to
"select" certain items displayed within the canvas. To accomplish this, on
the Mac and Windows platform, I do testing to see whether or not the user
has moved the mouse with the mouse button down over the item, if not I know
the user is attempting to select the item, if the mouse moves with the mouse
button down I know the user is trying to drag an item so I construct a
NewDragItem and start the drag from the MouseDrag event of the canvas. As I
said, this functionality works on both Mac and Windows, but not on Linux.
After some playing around, I was able to discover that Linux doesn't
initiate a drag from a dragItem created anywhere but in the MouseDown event.
So I'm stuck trying to figure out how to differentiate a "select" from a
"drag" using only the one event. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bob
