Thank god for 19" displays and 1024 x 768
Makes everything look big and bright :)

Hi Norman

Actually I've been doing a lot of experimenting with ways to make the display larger, including using Quartz Debug to enable the "resolution independent" display feature in Tiger that are supposed to be exposed in Leopard. It allows you to set the actual screen resolution (eg 110 dpi) and the OS trys to scale things so they are the same physical size as they would be on a 72 dpi screen, but at high resolution.

Interestingly some apps look great, and some apps look terrible.

Safari draws everything very nicely at the larger size; normal text is very crisp. However rasterized text is somewhat fuzzy, as you'd expect from scaling up a bitmap.

RB however looks very fuzzy everywhere. And the Finder isn't much better. I'm purely speculating that Carbon or QuickDraw based apps can't handle the resolution independent displays well.

So I wonder whether a Cocoa/Quartz based RB would scale its display better and whether such a beast is in the roadmap. Or what else it might take for RB to look good on Leopard?

Regards,
Joe Huber
