Your question answers itself, methinks. How can you get a 'nil'
array passed in in the first place? This doesn't make sense. Is this
a bug in RB or a misunderstanding?

Well xArray is being passed to this method and if it's "nil" this
doesn't
work. Anyway it appears that I can't test for nil because the
array isn't
an object. So these doesn't work:
if xArray is nil then
if xArray = nil then
Etc etc...
What am I missing here? Something obvious I'm sure...
