I think that misses the mark only because there is nothing wrong with
IsNumeric( line ). The original poster was suggesting a way to make it
faster, but his suggestion was not the equivalent.

And the suggestion of format & val has a built in issue in that it
may not handle something like
1.1
Text 1.1
2.2
Text 2.2
3.3
Text "3.3"
Adding trim, especially since it's not necessary within the context
of my
data set, would only make it slower.
That would be my expectation as well
