MacPAD take two

I know there were some people working on a new incarnation of the  
whole macpad infrastructure, protocol and such for app update  
notification (heck I think I was on the list at one point)  has there  
been any progress on it? resources?  who was working on it.  I've  
been working on other things recently and kind of fell off the RB map.
