I have a MyEditField Class with several properties that I'd like to

Have I dreamt this functionality, or what I am doing wrong?

You have been able to do this for a while. You are just going to the
wrong place to do it.
In the "Code Editor" of "MyEditField" Class, Control-Click on the
Browser Pane on one of your properties and select "Property List
Behavior...".
That will open a sheet window that will list the Built -in and your
added properties under Behavior at the bottom. You can then check the
box to have them appear in the Window Editor's Properties Pane. You can
even shut off many of the built-in properties' appearance. :)
