I am implementing a basic CRM for a client than manages contacts across multiple time zones.

They'd like a "customer's local time" clock to be shown in that contacts card, based on the customers country, city values, and don't mind using the net to retrieve GMT offsets. They'd also like to use the control to do project time translation. E.G, someone schedules an IM conference for 9am in Sydney, and it localises accross everyon's calendar based on where they currently are.

Has anyone done anything like this before, or at least know of a place to start looking (esp. for a freely accessible time offset resource)

As of REALbasic 2006 there is a Date.GMTOffset function in the Date class that returns the difference between the user's local time and Greenwich Mean Time (aka UTC) in hours.
