It's not RB thing, it's a Mac thing.

I see you have yet to learn the enlightenment of the Unix way :)

Absolute paths aren't guaranteed
to be unique on a Mac. But RB lets you use them if you want to. As
far as I can recall, it was Joe who most strongly discouraged
absolute paths (and with good reason) and not REALbasic itself.

Besides, just because everyone else does it, that doesn't mean it's a
good idea. ;)
