You're probably right about that, at least on the Mac.
"application/txt" is a MIME type, and advanced users will recognize it,
but most users will probably prefer something like "Text File".

Your Dipsayl Name is fine; your Object Name is not. This is a
REALbasic identifier you use to refer to the file type in your code,
and of course RB identifiers can not contain a division operator (/)!

Also, you should not leave the MacType and MacCreator empty. Set the
MacCreator to your application's creator code (which you should
remember to register with Apple), and set the MacType to whatever's
standard for MP3 files. Remember that the MacCreator will be ignored
for opening files, but used for creating new ones; and the MacType will
be ignored for untyped files, but used for properly typed ones.

That'd be a sensible feature request. In the meantime, I suppose the
work-around would be to create such a File Type dynamically (i.e., in
code rather than in the IDE).

Of course I don't work for RS, and I'm speaking only for myself here...
but I think you should file a feature request like everyone else. It's
not anybody's job to read this list and enter feature requests for you,
nor to respond to such informal emails and tell you about future plans.
Use the feedback system; that's what it is for (and is NOT what this
mailing list is for).

Best,
