If you create a project using 07R1 (while another version - say
06R4, which I still have) and there is some sort of crash to the
IDE requiring a reopen, the file will then "Open With" 06R4. If you
exit 07R1 normally, the "open With" preference remains 07R1 - it
only seems to change if there is a crash.
If 2007r1 crashes it shouldn't affect 2006r4 so the next time you
open the project, it will open with whatever Rb version is currently
running. If that happens to be 2006r4 then that's the one that will
open it. Is this what is happening?
The selection of which app should open is determined more by the OS
than by it's Rb creating version. To ensure it opens with the correct
version I usually drag it to the icon on the dock to open.
P.S. There was a recent discussion of RAM requirements, I have 1GB
and RB seems to run just fine. Is the heavy RAM requirement an
intel related thing?
No, as I have a G5 iMac and I found it was affecting me with only 1GB
of ram. The first thing I noticed was that the fan in my iMac was
making more noise and the case was getting hotter. Other Disk events
also seemed to get slower. I checked the Activity monitor and found
that over 800 MB of ram was either in direct use (active) or
allocated (unused) and less than 200 MB was left free. The hard drive
was being used much more as a swap file via the Virtual Memory. Since
I changed my two 512 MB cards to two 1 GB cards this no longer
happens. My computer runs cooler and the fan and HD are used less.
RB appears to be a real memory hog now.
