Please find attached an extract of the email I received from MySQL licensing quite some time ago.

It costs me a $250 euro one of payment to deploy one installation (unless I use InoDB tables), and I can charge whatever I want on top of that for my application.

And it costs even less if you purchase blocks of licenses ahead of time.

I cannot sell my customers on a per server / per year maintenance
price either. Typically I install my software, and never see the
client
again. ...

So, if I said I want a One Off payment lisence for version 5, that
enables me to develop and deploy commercial, free and shareware
solutions based on MySQL, and I don't want anything except the right
to use the software, what could you do for me?

- Tom Benson

Tom,
You should purchase MySQL Pro or MySQL Classic licenses
for your customers. They are perpetual licenses with one-time
payment per database server. (1 license allows you to install it
to one server, but you can have unlimited number of CPUs in
the server and unlimited connections.).

As said the, pricing is per installed database server.

List prices are:
- MySQL Classic, 250 Euro/server
- MySQL Pro, 500 Euro/server
If you buy 10 or more licenses per purchase,
we can provide volume discounts.

Some of our customers buy licenses as they go,
some buy e.g. 10 or 25 or 200 licenses beforehand.
You can choose the model, that suits you the best.

Do you have any estimates, how many licenses
you would distribute annually?

Would this kind of one-payment-per-server payment structure
suit you?

Kind Regards
Iko Rein

And what exactly is the difference between Pro and Classic??

The only difference is InnoDB tables. MySQL
Pro provides them, MySQL Classic not.

If you have any further questions, feel free to
send them to me.

Cheers, Iko
