It's not RS responsibility to make sure you are licensed for
anything but RB. I don't see how this is any different than using
the included Oracle plugin. Up to you to understand the licensing
involved with using the databases.
I have to agree with Gerard on this, not a new discussion about MySQL.
Not totally wrong, but if RS writes this...
>>>
Extended database support
REALbasic Professional Edition adds the ability to connect to multi-
user database servers like Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL,
FileMaker Server, MySQL, Sybase, Openbase, Frontbase, 4D Server or
any ODBC data source. Note: Microsoft SQL Server ODBC drivers for Mac
OS X are available from Actual Technologies.
<<<
.. and even mentions Actual's drivers, additional words regarding
MySQL's GPL issues wouldn't be
that much work, but help prospective users much.
Additionally, the Database and MySQL folders of the Extras folder
contain README and ABOUT
texts, but they don't mention the licensing issue too.
Moreover, if you started to work with 5.5.5's DB plugin, which was
shipped as a binary, I suppose,
it's likely that you think the current plugin is still non-GPL. As a
upgraded 5.5.5 user, I really wonder
if silently changing a license of some part of RB is friendly and legal.
Obviously, since many people seem to habe jumped in this trap, making
this problem explicit would
be more than helpful.
