I tried 'GetVolumeSerialNumber', but it returns '0' all the time (different volumes).

And I suspect, that this would be the number that is assigned when a drive is formatted, not the hardware serial number, which I am looking for.

To be more specific: I need to identify a user of my program using a password and a hardware-key; I played with HASP and Rockey-dongles, but the 'company' I am developing the software for has a couple of thousend 1GB-USB-memory-sticks laying around. So if I could use some of those as one key to identify users they (not for profit organisation) could save a lot of money...that is why I am trying to find the USB-hardware-serialnumber.

Btw: Mac OS X shows this number as 'USB serial number' and it is unique. Also under Windows using the computer-administration disk utility it shows this number. So it must be somehow available.

But: thanks again, I will keep trying/looking.
