I need to compile a list of song names and locations from the
iTunes XML file. I know absolutely nothing about XML. I tried the
dictionary example and only got the first level of info. I don't
know how to traverse an XML file.
Can someone please give me a quick lesson on XML (please dumb it
way down for me). Is it easier to just read a line at a time using
text input? I know the lists can get pretty large and I think this
may be too slow for my needs. I searched the archives but didn't
find an example or how to.
First be aware that the iTunes XML is XML in name only
It's a plist which is a pain in the butt to deal with as a plain XML
file because of how it's constructed
That said there are some classes that can read a plist; but be aware
that with a really large plist some of the pure RB ones can get slow.
Charles has documented how to use declares to access a plist
look for pbsw-propertylist, realbasic plist, and then also check out
