I have an app which I'm trying to debug using the Stub. This process

The app is transferred successfully from my main Mac to the Stub
running on the XServe however rather than the app launching the "My
Application.debug.icns" file opens in the Preview application.

When I select "Show Package Contents" I can see the file structure
and all files and folders seem to be in place and correct. The "My
Application.debug.icns" file which opens in Preview is located at:

My Application/Contents/Resources/My Application.debug.icns

Strangely, the "My Application/Contents/MacOS/My Application.debug"
main application file does not have an application icon as it does
with a regular compiled version of the app.

I thought the Stub used to '.bin' the file as it was transferred and
then unstuff it once it arrived - this does not seem to be the case
anymore.

Any thoughts on this issue would be great thanks

Are you debugging from another OS X machine to your new Xserve?

If so, this is a bug that predates even 6r4.

Here is the feedback id:

<http://www.realsoftware.com/feedback/viewreport.php? reportid=soyfnyrv>

Unfortunately, the feedback item was categorized "Fixed/ Implemented" for
7r1, but it wasn't fixed. At least not debugging from OS X to OS X.

Myself and at least one other user has begged for the feedback item to be reopened, to no avail. I've emailed Customer Service, who said they would get an engineer to investigate. Nothing. I've had brief exchanges with REAL employees via the feedback system and the forums, but they seem to have
quickly lost interest in it.

Here's the forum thread:

<http://forums.realsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?t=10256>

So, please, sign on to the feedback report if you wish to "cross- test" your universal binaries. Also you may with to email Customer Service and plead
with them to re-open the feedback item.

I'm not sure at what point it's appropriate to just open another feedback
item.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for your feedback.

Well it is good to know that it's not my new XServe which is causing the issue here. I have spent countless hours now trying to get this working but I have not been able to run a debug app via the stub once with RB2007r1. I was using the Stub all the time with early RB2006 releases and I'm uncertain which version broke the remote debug abilities but this is a major frustration now.

It's frustrating to see that the feedback item has been closed. I have been a RB paying user for many years now and I have never put the hard word on RB and requested an urgent fix but the time has now come. Remote Debugging is a major advantage of using RB and I'd really like to get an eta on a fix - even an estimate would be nice - 1 day, 1 month, 6 months? If we do have to wait for 2007r2 I'll be very disappointed.

I'm debugging from an OSX 10.4.8 PPC DP2gig G5 and the stub is running on a 10.4.8 PPC XServe DP2.5gig G5. The compiled debug app is a ppc app - not a UB.

If anyone else ever uses the Stub could you please consider testing it with 2007R1 and joining the feedback item if you also experience the issue - thanks

Cheers

Jeff
