I am using mac 10.4.8 on a powerbook G4 1.4ghz, and an imac G5 2.0 ghz and
2gb ram. RB2007 is not reliable on both machines, but RB2006R1 is perfectly fine
for the exact same code and same operations. The IDE does not crash. What
happens is that I say "run" and its running in debug mode, and then there are
certain operations which cause the debug run to crash without any warning,
without stopping on any line of code, and bringing up the Apple "report this"
window.
The "good thing" is that it crashes consistently. However I would have to
send a huge project with a number of files to Real for them to test, and who
knows how long this might take. Could something have changed in the compiler? It
seems to involve operations doing 50-500 things on an array in memory causes
this.
RB2007 is so unreliable (for my project on my computers) that I am forced to
use RB2006 to get work done. The debugger is next to useless, since I can't
see where the debug run crashes.
On my Intel iMac, the UB version of 2007R1 is quite stable. I get an
occasional crash, but it's rare. I had to use RB 2007R1 on (UB version
again) on my G4 PowerMac the other day and it must have crashed four
times in the hour or so it took me to troubleshoot a problem with
permissions.
