Hi all... I've been on this list a -long- time, and frankly, in my opinion, the web forum method would be just awful. Nothing is more convenient than having a simple email folder to peruse (in thread format), and I'd personally be much, much inclined to keep it that way.
With that being said, I did a quick check, and the URL: realbasicnug.org (or .com, etc.) is available. I currently have a regular, commercial account with Dreamhost (where my sites are hosted), and I'm offering to: - Register that above domain, - Would be willing to host (pay for the hosting, as it wouldn't be anything above my current plan, assuming we're not pushing gigabytes a month here...), - HELP in setting up and maintaining... Ideally, there would be a few main sysops who would have full access, and preferably one person be able to take day-to-day (or, at least regular) responsibilities for the list. Unfortunately, I don't think I can be that person, though. I don't really have the time. - Dreamhost has a reasonably good Discussion list system (not sure what it's based on), with web based search, management, etc. No RSS, as far as I know, though. So... if the will of the people here are that we should get a new server (mailing list), then I'd be willing to do the above (with a touch of help, of course from some of those here). Of course, I think to make the NUG mailing list to be truly effective, I think RS should, however, promote it in someway, even if it's just a "unofficial" promotion. That way the list doesn't just die off with no new users. - Corey > Add me to the list of user who will miss this list.
