Earlier, someone mentioned that this isn't such a big deal. It
doesn't matter one bit if the list is hosted by RealSoftware or not.
So let's not overblow the situation.
I concur with everything said here. I hate forums. I love email
mailing lists. Browse over the topic list in my client which I
choose. If I don't want to read the post, I don't open it.
My email client has great search facilities, so I can search the
mailing list and find anything I want.
RealSoftware is not smart for doing this, but if the mailing list is
independent, it should be independent and be hosted somewhere else.
The community is not dead.
I should say that in my experience Yahoogroups isn't so bad. You get
a web-based thing as well as email mailing lists. All the concerns
I've seen about people getting deleted or whatever seem user error
and not having anything to do with Yahoogroups.
Most mailing lists I belong to are Yahoogroups.
So, primarily we should make sure everyone subscribes to this new
list in the little time we have left, then start where we left off.
