I thought it was fascinating to see the rational though intense tone
of discussion on the NUG and RBdev list vs the petty arguments and
name calling over on the forum.
It seems to me that the forum is well suited to quick access by the
casual user who doesn't know or care to sign up for a mailing list
ahead of time. But the mailing list better suits people who want to
get involved in the community at a deeper level and have a deeper and
longer lasting involvement.
The forum is more like casual dating that you can drop into easily
and ask the occasional "one night stand" kinda questions.
The mailing list, like a marriage, requires more forethought to join
but builds a deeper sense of involvement, commitment and community.
