I'm working on a 2ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook with an external 23" monitor and it's a reasonably speedy setup.

I totally agree.

If you have the budget, get the new core 2 duo. Not only is it faster but its not plegued by the issues the first MBP had.

And of course, this is a forum for developers. For development, a
MacBook and a 20" monitor blows the doors off a MacBook Pro for
productivity, and is still cheaper.

An MBP has enough VRAM and a powerful enough GPU to run it's internal
and a 23" cinema (probably a 30" cinema as well) and not take any hit
in performance for video :)

Lots of screen real estate

I don't know about you guys but I work on this all day so it's decked
out and I spent a few bucks more than I would have for an MB but I
get to depreciate it and write it off anyways .....

The extra speed, bigger RAM capacity and all the little extras in the
MBP vs MB make it worth it for me
