This is a known problem. Check your MIDI settings with Audio MIDI Setup.app located in Utilities. Here's the info: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832 I've had users bitten by it before. Garage Band "fixes" it because it sets the sample rate back again.
