Are you an expert on a particular topic? How would you like to turn
that knowledge into fame and fortune?

Become an RBD columnist!

REALbasic Developer magazine is looking for new columnists. A column
is a regular 1-2 page article in each issue that focuses on a
specific developer topic. For instance, current columns include
"Beginner's Corner," "Algorithms," "Intel Focus," etc. We're looking
to start some new columns and one of our current columnists is
stepping down soon, so we're looking for someone to take over his
position.

Some of the topics we'd like to cover:

 From Scratch
For this column an entire application is built, from start to finish,
over several issues of the magazine. We want interesting, unusual
applications (preferably useful), and we're especially interested in
ones that use different technologies (XML, inter-application
communication, databases, etc.). The idea is to demonstrate all the
steps necessary in creating an application and provide the full
source code to the reader as you go along. The current author of this
column, Will Leshner, is stepping down, and we're looking for someone
to take over his column (he'll finish the app he's currently
building, so you'd start with a new project).

VB to RB
I'm imagining this as a short one-page column providing tips and
advice on moving from VisualBasic to REALbasic, however I'm open to
ideas. We had a VB-to-RB column at one time, but the author felt like
he'd exhausted the subject, so it could be an "any language to
REALbasic" column would be better. You could demonstrate how to
convert Java, C++, Perl, etc. to REALbasic. I know I often find code
snippets on the Internet in other languages but have trouble
understanding them enough to convert them to RB.

Advanced Techniques
This column is the opposite of "Beginner's Corner." The actual topics
would vary, but the target audience is experienced programmers.
Coverage of declares, complex algorithms, high-end math, game
physics, graphics, optimizations, etc. would be typical.

Some other topic ideas include Game Development, Graphics/Multimedia,
XML, Internet/Networking, RBScript, Office automation, Error Handling/
Debugging, and Linux development, just to name a few. If you're an
expert in another area, feel free to suggest it!

REALbasic Developer columnists receive a free subscription to RBD and
are paid for each column. Being a columnist looks great on a resume!
For more information about writing for RBD see our Writer's Guidelines:

Our goal is to line-up several new columnists. Please contact me *off-
list* if you're interested or have questions. Tell me a little about
yourself and your column idea.
