What's that old saying, "Only you can prevent forest fires!" ;)

It's not hard to trim a response in email, but we all have to be
diligent to do it on every post. Remember you are showing up on
thousands of peoples doorsteps and it is right thing to do to not
waste their time. Also people are more inclined to read your
response if your post is visually appealing. It shows you took the
time and you care about what you say.

After I first posted the message, "Is your bit bucket clogged?"
people have gotten a lot better at trimming the garbage off their
posts--Thanks! The next level to aspire to is to trim the unneeded
parts from their quotes. What I mean by this is people will quote
an entire message and only respond to one small part. Many people
on this list use threaded email clients and we also have the NUG
archive if we want to go back and read the previous entries in the
thread. Therefore it is not necessary to quote an entire message.
Of course this is context driven in that you want to quote enough
of the message to give a proper context to your response. If we
all take the time to thoughtfully trim the unneeded parts, then
the quality of life on the list will be enhance.
