Here's how I would do this:

Class MyClass Interfaces actionNotificationReceiver
  Property MyTimer As Timer

  Sub Constructor
      MyTimer = new Timer
      MyTimer.addActionNotificationReceiver(me)
      MyTimer.Enabled = True
      MyTimer.Period = 2000
      MyTimer.Mode = Timer.ModeSingle
      MyTimer.Reset
  End Sub

  Sub PerformAction
    MsgBox "Timer fired"
  End Sub
End Class
