I couldn't agree more with the awkwardness of using this class. The
interface never has spoken to me either.

The bigger issue here is how truly difficult it is to create class
interfaces that *most* users can just use without opening the LR. Over the
years Rb has done a tremendous job in designing the classes we use and
giving us core usability to tweak them to our liking.

You are not alone, I have come across many user created dictionary
subclasses in example projects that address the issues you mention.
