That should work for, say, entering text in a editfield. But what  
about keyboard shortcuts, e.g. cmd-Q for quit, etc.
I guess this is where the QUONG ( which looks very interesting) might  
come in. I haven't thought this through, but I guess one could get  
the input from a QUONG to act as a menu shortcut.
