In my own efforts to replace parseDate(), I've used the convention  
that when I enter a single integer and hit return, it assumes I mean  
that day of the current month and generates that complete date for  
me. The date ordering accords with the setting of the current  
preferences. An extension of this, that I use almost every day in an  
accounting application, allows me to add either a '+' or a '-' and  
get the month following or the month preceding the present month. So;

10 return    produces 10 May 2007
10- return   produces 10 April 2007
10+ return  produces 10 June 2007

It's tempting to go further, but probably unwise!
