I was incorrect about that fact but the modal type window is a separate class and has certain characteristics that are common to all modal window types. One is that they cannot respond to a close widget of the parent or calling window. If one disputes that then one must argue with Apple. Because this is an Apple design matter that they do not allow to be over-ridden. If Craig wishes to have a window with a close button then it shouldn't be a sheet window that is attached to the calling window but be separate and have it's own close button. The standard for OSX preferences and About windows is to have a document type window.
