From: "Bill Parker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: how we use splitting in hongkong Hello Good luck with the new job. I may be sending you my resume soon! We run 2 net radio stations. We "live encode" using G2SLTA from a real server in our office, than transmit that on our 128kb leased line to an ISP. At the ISP they have another real server set up in pull splitting mode. That server is the one our listeners connect to. It's on a T1 line. This gives us the advantage of having our "main" streaming server in our office without having to buy large capacity leased lines that are pretty expensive here. The 128k bine sends two channels of 20k streams to the splitter server offsite. The only problem is the short timeout on the split server and the "stuck record" effect this can cause. You are welcome to take a listen and see how it works www.MusicAsia.com www.musicjapan.net Bill Parker BroadcastAsia Ltd. I've recently been made an offer to go work for a 50 million dollar internet company as head of a new RealAudio/Realvideo department, and I have a few questions about the current releases of the G2 server and encoder. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. These folks are planning on getting me whatever computer I want, and I was wondering if there was any special kind of hardrive I should get that would work best for video capture/editing/playback. I know that it should have the following features: 1) large storage capacity 2) fast millisecond access time 3) thermal re-calibration turned off (A/V drive) What's the name of that new kind of hardrive that writes to both the inside and the outside of the platter at the same time? Whatever it's called, I hear it works best for Audio & Video. Anyone know? Also, .. do digital soundcards work with RealProducer? If yes, .. is any particular brand recommended in regards to compatibility? I don't hear much talk about the use of digital soundcards when doing realaudio, so I figured I'd ask before getting the company to make a purchase. Now, .. about RealServer, .... Is there any trick to getting RealServer to NOT drop an encoder connection after a mere 10 second timeout? I know that this should hardly be a problem once I'm in an environment where T-1 and DS3 speed connections are the norm, but this has still been a recurring problem for me in the past. Is there any way to increase that timeout value? Or is there any way to trick the server into thinking the encoder is still connected so it doesn't drop it? Also, .. Is there any way to set up a remote RealAudio server so that it acts as a "relay" that would re-broadcast a stream with a slight delay? I know that on the Unix platform, people talk about doing something called "load balancing" using cgi scripts, .. but is there any way to do this using the Windows NT platform? Is this what you would call "pull splitting" ? Or is that something else entirely? Thanks guys! -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
