This is a religous arguement.
Basically the 100 and 1000 have the same chip set, but he 1000 has more
support 'middle ware' that allows it to do compression on the card, taking
the burden off the system cpu.
We have had success using a laptop 333Mhz with osprey 1000 and encoding
a live stream at 28.8 (video/audio) and sending out over ISDN lines.
Since most systems have audio already, there isn't much of an advantage
in having the audio on the 1000, except there is one less set of software
drivers to get messed up. We have had good success with NT 4.0, and less
with Windows 95 and 98.
If you have a problem however, it can be a bear tracking it down. Real
has been inconsistent in it's recommendations concerning the 1000, but
I have in general been happy with the results.
I have heard that the Real Producer G2 has support for multiple 1000 cards,
but I haven't seen this in print.
