Subject: Re: lenght of real file

I have never had any problems with large encodes. The largest that I
have done was 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Problems occur when you create an avi or mpeg files before you encode as a
RealPlayer File. Usually, you can't get around the 2 gig limit for an avi
file. If you can, edit the tape first then capture directly into
RealPlayer and use rmeditor to edit the final file.

As for breaking it apart, I assume that it has logical breakpoints (i.e.
introductions to a new topic) then I would suggest using a SMIL front end
to point to the various segments. This way, the consumer will be able to
go directly to the file they want to see without having to "fast forward"
the clip. I use something similar to this method when I do episodes from a
video tape. I had a friend design me a SMIL front-end that can be made to
point to the various episodes on the cd (usually 8 to 12 episodes depending
on the length for around 4 1/2 hours on a cd).
