Subject: Subject: live video encoding on laptops
Hi:
By blind luck, the parallel-port capture card that I bought works very well
with the Real Encoder/Producer..
It is the Quick Video Transport - www.alaris.com Unfortunatley there are
no drivers for Linux, but it works well under Windows95/98 and NT.
http://www.channelafrica.org/video.shtml
Is a URL where we make available automatically encoded TV news bulletins
from South Africa. I am now using a desktop PC - a 450mHz Pentium 3
running Windows 98 and a 10 000 rpm scsi HD, and with this I can get 15 fps
recording an AVI file before encoding. But the bulletins you see published
are live encoded, and seem to be around 9 or 10 fps - ( I suspect the Alaris
software might not be optimised for the Pentium 3)
On my home PC - a 200mmx and ide HD, I could only get 3 fps when encoding
'on the fly' - my 300mHz P2 Acer laptop could do around 4 or 5 fps.
Below is an example of one of my batch files (I use the scheduler in Win 98
to run these) which encodes the file, and then FTP's it to our Internet
server in Johannesburg, and two other servers in the UK and the USA...
Hope you find this of help!
Regards,
Richard King

Subject: live video encoding on laptops
I am trying to do live video encoding on a laptop. I have purchased a
video capture card for laptops called the Margi "capture to go" card. It
uses zoom video.
I have managed to hook up my camcorder to the card and play the video on
my computer using the Margi software. However, I cannot get any picture
when I try to do live encoding using RealPublisher. Has anyone else
tried or succeeded to do live encoding on laptops? If so, how?
