Subject: questions about encoding realvideo
I just started a new job as a realaudio developer/administrator here at Yupi
in Miami, and I have a few questions regarding the production of realvideo
that would we be very helpful to have answered if any of you have the time:
1) Is it true that you should only use uncompressed AVI files (on WINDOWS NT
platform) to ensure good quality when encoding realvideo? I have a video
that's 13 1/2 minutes long that I need to encode at 320x240, and I foresee
problems regarding my going over the 2 GB AVI filesize limit if I can't use
compression. Any advice?
2) In regards to the above, .. if necessary, would it be possible for me to
encode live directly to realvideo format using realproducer plus,... with
just as good quality results?? If yes, what software could I use to edit
the resulting realvideo file?
3) I have an NT 4.0 workstation with the following specs:
P3 500 mhz with a new 133mhz motherboard, 256 MB PC100 RAM, 8 GB Ultra-Wide
SCSI HD (split up in to 2 4-GB partitions), and an Osprey 100 video capture
board.
Although the specs are pretty robust, I tried capturing video as NTSC, @
30fps w/ 44khz stereo audio @ 640x480, and the system dropped so many frames
during the capture process that the video and audio were grossly out of sync
about halfway through the playback. Why on earth would that be happening?
Capturing at 320x240 worked great. Is 640x480 asking too much, .. even with
a hotrod PC like this?
4) Would I achieve better performance when capturing if I was to install a
second ultra-wide SCSI HD in the machine, and use that one to write the
video data to when capturing, .. as opposed to my using the same HD that the
operating system is installed on?
5) What performance tweaks can I make to my Windows NT system (in the
registry, system.ini files, paging file, etc.,) to optimize it for desktop
video?? Also, are there any programs or processes that I should pause
temporarily to minimize interuptions during the capturing process, .. hence
the dropping of frames?
Whatever advice any of you could offer would be very helpful and much
appreciated.
thank you,
