I would agree with all Aaron has written, and add that Lavelier microphones
are probably more important than anything else.
The closer you can get to your source, the better the sound quality (if yoou
use a decent mic).
We have been using DPA laveliers with excellent results. They have one of
the highest outputs of any mic on the market. This means that you can run
your gain structure lower, and get a better S/N ratio. These are not cheap,
but they are rugged, miniscule in size, and well worth it.
We are also about to try a microphone from Leon Audio.They look good, and
price is half that of the DPA.
Other good mics I have used personally include Sennheiser and Shure.
