Subject: LAN Web Pages and RAM files
I have a dilemma that I have not seen the answer to in here. I have a
web-based program that I am trying to deliver across a LAN (i.e. the web
pages are accessed through the network neighborhood), to a number of
different groups. I have Real Media content that I am trying to access
via a .ram file. I am trying to access the .rm file using a relative
path so that I do not have to hard code the host name into each server's
copy of the program (i.e. file:\\\\host\programdirectory\filename.rm).
I know that the .ram files are able to use a relative path name, and
when the .ram file is opened directly from the network neighborhood, the
clip plays, as it should. The problem arises when I have the browser
access the .ram file via a link in the web page. The browser downloads
the .ram file to its TEMP directory, so that when it trys to direct the
player to the .rm file, it can not be found, as the TEMP version is
being executed instead of the network version. Is there any way I can
achieve a LAN-based web call to a .ram file without using a hard-coded
network directory call? Any help is appreciated.
