Subject: G2 "Buffered Play" Adjustments Not Working

Hello--

I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on an problem I
have been unable to resolve with the vendor who hosts my web site, re
the performance of his Real Server G2.

The Real Video clips on my site don't respond to "Buffered Play" control
panel adjustments made in the Real Player. As I have a number of
international visitors, this feature is very important -- If the buffer
size can't be increased , viewers with slow or intermittent connections
are treated to a very slow slide show as the G2 server dumbs down the
frame rate.

As it is, it makes no difference if the player ( Real Player 7 on both
Windows and Mac) is set to 5 seconds or 90 seconds for buffer time in
the "connection' control panel in the player; It always buffers about
the same amount (5-10 seconds) after the connection is established.
Enabling "Perfect Play" makes no difference. Selecting "buffer the
entire clip" does not work either, even on clips of less than two
minutes. Some of my G2 clips are recorded with SVT, others are not --
also making no difference.

See for example: http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/ram/P-39G28.ram

This clip was encoded using Real Producer Plus G2 (Mac). My vendors
server version
is RealMedia 6.0.3.328(sunos5) During playback, the transport protocol
reads "RTSPvHTTP". I was not behind a firewall during play back tests,
which were done from a number of locations using dial up modems.

Any suggestions why "buffered play" is not working and how it can be
enabled that I can pass on to my vendor? I don't believe there is
anything I am missing in the encoding process.

Thanks,

Winsor White
