To restate what you probably already know:
What you need to do is write an Applet that our player will make it's calls
to. Your Applet then in turn calls JavaScript or performs the actions you
wish to do directly within the Applet (such as throwing a web page to a given
frame).

I have a page that does just this as an example. I have not done extensive
testing in different environments so I can't guarantee it's reliability but
you can see a demo page I have up at
http://demos.real.com/tools/clipinfo.htm. This page uses the RealPlayer
callback methods to determine when the clip has finished it's prefetch and
grab clip info and display it in the page. There is source there that you can
download and customize to your particular needs.

Also, as you know, the callback methods demonstrated in the example above are
documented in the 'Embedded Player Extended Functionality Guide' on
http://service.real.com/help/library/encoders.html.

Hope this helps,

cheers!

p.s. I am offline right now so please accept my apologies if this URL is
incorrect. You might also try .html if .htm does not work.
