Subject: Updating embedded ActiveX control

My apologies if this is an old topic, but my searches through the
archives so far haven't yielded anything that helped me.

I'm embeddding the ActiveX control in a page, but sometimes the
stream that it's attempting to play is a G2 stream. The problem
crops up with older versions of the Real ActiveX control and
it's inability to render the stream. If I try to play the
same stream source in the standalone (older) player, it correctly
informs that it can't play and that an upgrade is necessary.

However, the ActiveX control object doesn't appear to issue
any complaints/issues about being unable to play the stream. It
just sits there and displays a status message about trying to
connect.

The two older versions I've had problems with are both older
IE4.0 machines that the users haven't installed more recent
versions of the RealPlayer and have version info resembling:

"RealAudio (tm) ActiveX control 32-bit
  Version 2.1
  2.1.1.9"

"RealVideo (tm) ActiveX control 32-bit
  Version 4.0.1
  4.0.20.126"

I could force an upgrade via the "CODEBASE" parameter in
the <OBJECT> tag to a known-good version (RealPlayer
version 6.0.7.380 and 6.0.2.902 work fine), but is
there a known-good/standard URL for where the latest
version of the RealPlayer lives? I realize that
the ActiveX control isn't available by itself and
the user will have to download/install the whole
RealPlayer package - that should be OK.

Thanks,
-Jody
