I have experimented with all three extensively and we use Mac Avids for
video editing... The Avids use the Mac version of the Targa board which
seems to work fine for full frame video but I've found the encoded video
quality isn't as good at lower resolution. When capturing with it at lower
resolutions it tends to look pixilated more than the other two.
The Osprey 100 and 200 both to produce the best results and because of that
we now have 8 of them in full-time use doing video encoding.
We tried the Winnov as well but the picture quality seemed fuzzy when
compared with the Osprey. I've not seen the latest version though, we
tested it just over a year ago.
While I'm at it, we also tested the daughter-board add-on to the Matrox. It
seemed in the same "consumer" class as the Winnov.
I have to mention, though, that I have seen driver issues with the Osprey on
NT that conflict with RealProducer. I'm not exactly able to pinpoint the
problem but switching to 98 seems to have helped considerably. Obviously we
lose a little performance because of that. I'm hoping the Win2K drivers
will be better. I've noticed that many video capture cards don't have NT
drivers at all and the ones that do tend to not be exceptionally stable.
The Targa seems to be the one exception there. I don't think WinNTs
architecture is especially suited for video capture.

I doing lots of video editing using 3d studio max and Avid MCXpert NT
Software sweet.
I have a Beta Playback deck and I'm presently building out my encoder.
I narrowed down my choices to three cards:
1. WINOV
2. Targa 1000 Pro Pinnacle Software.
3. Osprey 200
Which is the best for taking AVI or S-Video with RCA and encode content for
the internet?
