Perhaps a better way to to accomplish this would be to embed a simple SMIL
file into the page instead, .. with a still image being
loaded into the same region as the video, .. but on a layer that has a
higher z-index. Then, somehow, when the video starts
playing, destroy that image region so that the video beneath is revealed.
*note - remember, -- in order to embed a smil file, .. you have to
reference it through a metafile (.rpm or .ram). You can not embed
the smil file directly into the page.

Not necessarily true. It may work on some platforms but using
PREFETCH=true does *NOT* guarantee that the player will either
a) display the first frame, or
b) stop at the first frame
We wanted to FREEZE-FRAME too but after 4weeks of effort found
that the only thing you can rely on is javascript events being
fired when prefetch has completed. Avoid doing anything fancy
or you will regret it!
G7 doesnt improve in this aspect, I look to future versions to
properly freeze frame!
