Subject: Frame synchronizer

A frame synchronizer is useful with tape analog sources which tend to have
shaky sync, including VHS, SVHS, U-Matic, analog video disk, etc. This is
not true of live analog cameras though, which are stable sources.
Frame synchronizers are sometimes known as Time Base Correctors or TBCs.
TBCs were designed to provide a feedback loop for a tape deck to adjust its
capstan speed in response to the wavering of the video output sync
signal.=20 This is different than something which holds and replicates frames.
MiniDV/DVCAM, Betacam: Shouldn't need anything since the source is digital
(or in the case of Betacam is digitally processed) and there is no
sensitivity to tape speed.

brands/models are best recommended?
In the professional world, you may see the notation Y/C. That means
S-video, although you sometimes might need to use a special connector that
turns the S-video connector into 2 BNC connectors.
My all time favorite is the I.DEN IVT-7, which cost about $1000 many years
ago.=20
You could probably find a used one somewhere for quite a bit less than that.

Other low cost (for video anyway) gear is commonly made by Hotronics:

(the 310 *may* be similar to the 210, but I don't know)
