Hi:

I thought I'd post some thoughts about running realXtend server on
Solaris 10 with Mono in the hopes that it might be useful to others.
YMMV. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you have questions
about what I've done.

1. Installing mono was easiest from Blastwave, though I had to compile
libgdiplus by hand. When I ran it on Ubuntu I used the mono from the
repos, much easier than compiling mono by hand.

1. Physics engine. Seems only to work when I invoke the server with -
physics=POS. One wonders if there is a performance or prettiness
penalty using this engine?

2. Some of the readme files are a bit weird, for instance Regions/
default.xml isn't generated until after the first run but we're
instructed to edit it. You can probably enter whatever info you want
to generate the file and then edit default.xml later.

4. OpenSim.exe only runs when invoked as root.

5. I've been starting auth, avatar and server using screen for each
component, this makes it easy to watch the output go by for different
components. I haven't tried to run the .bat to start the server using
mono.

6. Zones rule. If you break it just kill the zone and start over.
Though you'll need to build a whole root zone to install mono and
libgdiplus, this takes about an hour on my machine.

Thanks,

Chris
