Yes, the implementation to walk inside a hollow prim is not
implemented en the version of OpenSim(OS) than use realXtend (RX).
Only some variations of OS, with specific modifications done for
developpers.

For other side, about you question of the rener inside the meshes, I
use the trick of meke individuals components in Sketechup and to apply
the paint to the full component before to use the Ogre plugin, and
from 3DS I found very ussefull this others exporters:
http://www.ogre3d.org/wiki/index.php/OGRE_Exporters.

With the OgreMax Scene/Mesh Exporter, you can decompose a full
building in... about 500 prims and the ogre scene, because that, is
necessary a good prior planning.
