Again, this seems to be a routing problem. Are you at a school, library,
university or large corporation?
There is a good chance that they are using Proxy filtering, and this is
probably interferring/blocking the ports that you need to use. (This is how
network administrators keep people from using things like Kazaa, or other
P2P software, or messengers, etc.)
More than likely, this is the problem you are experiencing. I suggest that
you go home and try it on a nice open network, and try to login from a home
computer (with no firewall) that is directly connected to the internet. The
problems you are experiencing are probably firewall/proxy server related.
Schools, Universities, Libraries, and most large corporations all implement
advanced Firewall/Content Filtering/Proxy Servers that block direct 1:1
routing with the internet.
It's highly unlikely that an Administrator from such an organization would
put you on a VLAN, and give you direct outside access to the internet
(because they would view it as a "security risk"). I would suggest going
home, and trying it from home.
