Hi everyone, the Director of the Immersive Education Initiative just sent this note (below) asking anyone with questions for next week's conference panel to send them (via the web page below). I know that some of the routine questions that educators have about Second Life include ownership of what they create and where they can "take" what they create (moving their worlds to the open Education Grid, for example, or into other virtual world platforms), so any questions like that are probably likely to make it into the panel. (Immersive Education Initiative uses the "viewer" because it's open source, which it the connects to the open Education Grid where educators have their own servers and own all the content they create... questions relate to that, or the Second Life content ownership policy, for example, might be good questions for the panel, or any other questions you have regarding sharing/exchanging immersive learning content/worlds). By way of background you may find th! e following Immersive Education open standards group charter helpful, as it's the group through which the open file format (content sharing and exchange) for official Immersive Education platforms are created:

Walsh" http://ImmersiveEducation.org Subject: Questions for Campus Tech panel on open standards for Immersive Education? To: Immersive Education Initiative http://ImmersiveEducation.org Hello everyone, I'm moderating the Immersive Education panel discussion at the Campus Technology 2009 conference next week (the panel is called "Immersive Technology Platform Standards: Sharing Your World") and wanted to encourage questions from members of the Immersive Education Initiative and all of our related communities. The panel is focused on open standards for immersive education platforms (details below), and any questions you have related to this topic that you'd like for me to ask the panel I'd be happy to try and include. The panel will be video taped, and after the conference we'll share the video with everyone as well (it's a live panel, in Boston at the conference, not in-world; but the video tape will be put online after the conference for everyone to see). If you have a question for the panel please send it through the following Web page "CONTACT" form: http://MediaGrid.org/people/aew/ (click CONTACT button on page) Below is an overview of the panel as well. But how will institutions share their work in immersive education more generally, and how do they know that their development efforts can be leveraged in the future? This session examines emerging standards for immersive environments, and considers the issues technology and academic leaders on campus should consider as they explore the amazing opportunities of immersive education.
